What are the rules of blackjack?
1. The objective of the game is to beat the dealer – not compete against other players.
2. The goal is to get a hand value of 21 or as close to 21 as possible without going over.
3. Each player is dealt two cards, and the dealer receives one card face up and one card face down.
4. Cards 2-10 are worth their face value, while face cards (Kings, Queens, Jacks) are worth 10 and Aces can be worth either 1 or 11, depending on what is most beneficial to the player.
5. Players can choose to “hit” (receive another card) or “stand” (not receive another card) based on their hand value.
6. If a player’s hand exceeds 21, they automatically lose, known as “busting.”
7. If the dealer busts, all remaining players win.
8. If a player’s hand value equals 21, they have a “Blackjack” and immediately win.
9. If the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, players can choose to take insurance, which protects against the dealer having a Blackjack.
10. The dealer must hit until their hand value is at least 17, and then must stand.
11. If the player’s hand value is higher than the dealer’s but does not exceed 21, the player wins.
12. If the dealer’s hand is higher than the player’s or if the player busts, the dealer wins.
13. In the case of a tie, the bet is pushed and no one wins.
